REVIEW OF THE LADY”S GUIDE TO PETTICOATS AND PIRACY BY MACKENZI LEE

y648 (2)So for those who don’t know, this book is the Sequel to The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue.

“A year after a whirlwind of a grand tour with her brother Monty, Felicity Montague has returned to England with two goals in mind avoid the marriage proposal of a lovestruck suitor and enroll in medical school. However, her passion for medicine won’t be enough in the eyes of the administrators, who think only men are suited for science. But when a window of opportunity opens—a doctor she idolizes is marrying an old friend of hers in Germany. Felicity believes that he could change her future, but she has no money to make the trip. Luckily, a mysterious young woman is willing to pay Felicity’s way, so long as she’s allowed to travel with Felicity disguised as her maid. In spite of her suspicions, Felicity agrees, but once the girl’s true motives are revealed, Felicity becomes part of a perilous quest that leads them from the German countryside to the promenades of Zürich to secrets lurking beneath the Atlantic.”

 A Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy 5 🌟

Anyway if you’ve read the first book or want to, this review wont contain any spoilers. I read the first book during the summer and didn’t really enjoy it, which really surprised me because I had heard a lot of positive feedback on it. Anyway I saw this book on edelweiss (thank you so much to them for sending me an e-arc) and decided to read it and give this series a second chance and hope to enjoy it more than the first one.

I ended up loving up this book, it was everything I hoped The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue to be. It was funny and entertaining, also I  loved the LGBTQ+ rep in the book. Felicity was just such a good protagonist she was sassy, clever and quite realistic. I hate it when authors make very 1 dimensional main characters. I loved the little Monty/Percy moments we got during the book. The thing that made me decided to give this series a second chance, is that there are so many plot-twist and the book really has more to it that the synopsis would suggest.

 DISLIKES:

Even though I gave this book a 5/5 which it totally deserved. There are a few things that I wanted to talk about. THis is a very fast paced book so sometimes I got a bit confused but to be honest that happens to me in 70% of books. The other thing that is pretty related to this is that sometimes as I said it would be very fast pace while in other times it would drag on a bit, but it has a very big plot with many sub-plots so that makes sense

CHARACTERS:

Can we just talk about the golden trio right here Johanna/Sim/Felicity those three just stole the show they were each so different but all opinionated (which we love) sure at first they wanted to kill each other but they became quite good friends in the end. I just love how this set in the 1800’s but that it never stopped them.

Sim: We stan our feisty queen I have to say that I didn’t like her that much at first but by the end of the book she was an amazing character.

So I’m kinda to lazy to talk about everyone but they were all amazing characters expect for the antagonist.

Well that concludes my review of The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy it wasn’t one of my all-time favourites but for sure a 5 🌟 .

Happy Reading

WHAT IF ITS US-by BECKY ALBERTALLI and ADAM SILVERA

Before I get into it, I just wanted to talk a little bit about the authors. I read They Both Die In the End last year and loved it (4/5). The only reason i didnt give it 5/5 was because there were two many POVs and it dragged on abit. but other than that I love his writing. I read Simon vrs The Homo Sapiens Agenda and Leah on the offbeat. earlier this year and LOVED them Simon-(5/5) and Leah-(4/5) I fell in love  with becky’s writing and all her HP refences. So yeah before I get off topic, This was of my most anticipated releases because I love both authors.

What If Its Us – 4🌟

This book was super adorable. Its everything you expect it to be. Knowing Adam Silvera I was super scared that it would crush my heart in am million pieces, but it only shattered in half so it’s not that bad. I loved all the Harry Potter refencees ad DEH and Hamilton references. (I get so excited when books have references lol)

I loved the romance between Ben and Arthur (two main protagonist).  I felt that Adam’s and Becky’s writing styles just worked so well together. Also can we talked about that DIVERSITY. I love when books include LGBTQ+ or DIVERSITY (which this book has). Arthur was jewish and had ADHD, and Ben was Puerto Rican and also was not-rich. Sometimes I have noticed that in books everyone is high-middle class (!!THIS IS NOT EVERY BOOK, JUST A FEW THAT I HAVE NOTICED) and its fine cause authors write what they know , but I was very happy see that. In summary this book was super cute.

DISLIKES: I did give this book a 4/5🌟 so I’m just gonna say why.

I felt that this book was a bit predictable. So yes it was a love story but I think that from the begging you could already tell how it ended. It did you keep always on your toes and didn’t necessarily have moments that it dragged on. But if you’re a reader that doesn’t like predictable books than this one is a bit but its still awesome.

I didn’t like the ending. Ok so yes Adam Silvera co-wrote this book so there is no happy ending. But I felt that the ending was heart-breaking but in a good way. but then the epilogue ruined it….I felt that the ending was like “the end of an era” type ending and the epilogue just like started a new era even though there isn’t a 2nd book. Anyway I’m very bad at explaining it so just read it and you’ll hopefully get what I’m saying.

CHARACTERS: I’m just gonna talk about the characters real quick

I love arthur. Arthur is my precious no-chill cinnamon roll. I love how he is obseesed with Hamilton and how nerdy he is. He was so real-like, lol im horrible at this. Honestly he just reminds me so much of me. I have zero chill and he was just so adorable.

Ben: He wasn’t my fav but still I love how the they both nerds. Ill leave it to that cause I don’t want too spoil.

I also really liked Ben friends they were hilarious.

Well that concludes my review and thank you for sticking with me. I think in the end I give it a 4.5🌟

Six of Crows: book review (spoiler-free)

Hey Guys I’m gonna kick off my blog with a book review of Six of Crows. Six of crows is quite a hyped YA (young adult) novel, it was released back in 2017 and is written by Leigh Bardugo.

In summary Six of Crows is about Kaz Brekker one of our main protagonist who is a criminal prodigy and part of a gang called The Dregs . He then is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams, but he cant do it alone, he recruits 5 other members. Inej (A spy known as the Wraith), Jesper (A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager.), Nina (A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums.), Wylam (A runaway with a privileged past.), Matthias (A convict with a thirst for revenge). Together they find a way to break into “The ice Court” the most high security prison in Ketterdam, Six dangerous outcast. What could go wrong?

 4.0 – 4.5 🌟

· Before I get into this book review I would like to say a few things. This is a spoiler-free book review so don’t worry. Also If i do not like this book it’s not something towards you that is just my opinion.

I bought this book before I knew all the hype it surrounded it. Then when I looked it up on bookish instagram (bookstagram) I read a lot of reviews which were all between 4.5 – 5 /5. So i imagined that it was a pretty good book. Everyone has a book that they love even if sometimes they’re not as good as we think they are either because they hold something dear in our hearts or because you just really loved or connected to the book . Well reading  the reviews to Six Of Crows i imagined  that this book was going to change my life. A few months passed and I hadn’t read it up until about a month ago when i finally picked it up and read it.

If you don’t know Leigh Bardugo also wrote a trilogy called “The Grishaverse trilogy” it includes “Shadow and bone” “Seige and Storm” and finally “Ruin and RisingRelated image-lovely photo by carmensreadingcorner

Basically both “The grisha trilogy” and SoC take place in the same world i suggest you read “Shadow and Bone” first to grasp everything. Of course this is merely a suggestion you can dive right into SoC if you’d like. If you guys want a full review of the grisha trilogy please leave me a comment.

Back to the review; So I really liked the book I found that the plot was super interesting and the character-building was good, the dynamic and the feels of the book were on point, but there were a few things that bothered me; I found that sometimes it dragged on and yes the plot was very intricate,  but I felt they could have made it shorter in some areas. Next thing is that I was confused in some parts. It’s very likely that its me and has nothing to do with the book because I do tend to get lost in complicated plots but if you are like me, be careful. My last thing is that I found that some of the characters acted very mature and that maybe the book should also be advertised as an adult book but that’s my personal opinion.

Now why I rated it a 4~4.5 I personally overhyped myself for this book. As I was trying to explain before the amount of hype surrounding this book is excessive and I just expected the very best of best. Don’t get me wrong its a really good book but just not one that I’m currently obsessed over. Since I was setting my expectation very high I wasn’t enjoying the book and at the end felt disappointed when I should have been happy that I read a good book .If you decide to pick up this book my best suggestion is don’t expect too much. I know its hard to think about now that it’s in your mind but just relax and read. If you adore it well that’s amazing you found a new favourite book ,if you enjoyed it, well good for you, you finished another book!

So that’s my review if you liked it please go give it some love, and i’ll write a new post soon.

Happy reading
